Crowded Kitchen Players presents the romantic Christmas comedy, Parfumerie adapted by E.P. Dowdall, and directed by Ara Barlieb, Nov. 30 through Dec. 16 at McCoole’s Arts and Events Place.

Parfumerie, a new adaptation of the Hungarian play ‘Illatszertar’ by Miklos Laszlo, inspired the movies ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ with James Stewart and ‘You’ve Got Mail’ with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan; and the Tony award winning musical, ‘She Loves Me’.

This warm comedy follows the tangled tale of George Horvath (William Alexander, Jr.) and his over-worked, underpaid fellow employees of a Parfumerie in pre-war Budapest.

Just days before Christmas, George’s employer and shop owner, Mr. Hammerschmidt (David ‘Oz’ Oswald) fires him after mistakenly suspecting him to be the lover of his unfaithful wife. Meanwhile, George’s only hope at a happy life outside the shop is dashed when he discovers that the stranger he has fallen in love with through a secret correspondence is none other than Amalia Balash (Kelly Herbert James), a co-worker with whom he constantly feuds.

For the employees of the Parfumerie, only their combined wisdom, experience, and compassion for one another can rescue them from the dreariness of their long days and lonely nights.
